The Nespresso C110 is an elegant Art Deco retro inspired coffee maker that is mated up with the latest expresso making technology that gives you a top quality cup of coffee. However, it is a specialty coffee machine and is not for everyone.

The C110, which is also known as the Citiz, is a high tech and high fashion machine but is locked into using Nespresso’s proprietary coffee capsule system.

The capsules contain the grounds in a sealed aluminum container that is designed as such in order to be amazingly simple to insert and remove.

Whether this is an advantage and a drawback depends on you. The sealed capsules make it certain you can never spoil your grinds. You absolutely will get a fresh cup every time.

The drawback though is that Nespresso have a limited number of ground blends. There are about a dozen core blends and they do a few Limited Editions every year.

One thing you will like for sure is the ease of use and fast clean up. The stylish looks are popular too plus the fact that a top class shot is created by a machine that is so simple to use. But for those who enjoy hunting for special beans then being locked into the relatively small selection makes Nespresso the wrong choice.

Plus, the capsules can only be bought from Nespresso, though as a plus this does mean that Nespresso have taken a lot of care over their blend choices and while they are limited in numbers the quality of taste is exceptional.

So if you are ok with these limits you’ll get a beautiful brew made in a very short time. You literally just pop a capsule in, fill the 1-liter water container and press the on button. 30 seconds later, hey presto, you have a great espresso. You also have the choice of making it short (single) or lungo (double).

With the C110 there is none of the tamping of grounds, setting temperatures or any of those tasks we often associate with making gourmet cups of coffee. The maker does all of that for you. Plus it turns off automatically so there is no danger of burning anything.

Very popular too is the fact that there are no interior parts to clean. All you need to do is wipe off the drip mold now and again. And if you drink a lot of coffee you can pop the top of the capsules and use the grounds for composting…my worms are coffee lovers now! If not then just recycle the containers. The drip tray is removable takes literally seconds to rinse.

However this easy clean does mean a low number of features. There is no frother. (The C120 does have an integrated one)into the unit.)

There is not a steam wand or single or dual filters, and there is no integrated bean grinder, after all, no need as you have the capsules. If you need this sort of functionality in an espresso maker looks at one like the Saeco Vienna.

But the C110 does give you compensating advantages. It is very stylish design and is a compact unit and takes up little counter space. It’s only 5 inches wide x 14 inches deep and 11 inches high meaning that you can tuck it just about anywhere. With a weight of 3.5 pounds it is also very light so it’s easy to put away and take out.

The Nespresso C110 also has an amazing 19-bar pressure pump which is unusual on a machine this size and cost, this seriously squeezes all the flavor out of those capsule grounds. If only it was possible to select your own beans this would be the perfect single-serve coffee maker.
