The Nespresso C100 is an excellent espresso maker, as long as you are happy to accept some limitations.

The C100 Essenza along with other Nespresso models such as the C110, C120, D290, and others makes use Nespresso’s proprietary coffee capsule system. That’s a sealed aluminum container that holds grounds the company’s buyers have sourced from all over the world.
But with that said there are limits to the varieties. Nespresso currently offer about a dozen plus varying numbers of Limited Edition blends that change over time. Nespresso prepare the coffee and make the capsules meaning you can only use these capsules for Nespresso coffee makers.
But despite these limits the Nespresso C100 really does make an excellent coffee and it super easy to use. A nice extra benefit is that it is a very stylish appliance that looks great in the kitchen or dining room. In short, a fine mix of taste, simplicity, and style. All in all, excellent.
True, committed home baristas would prefer a broader choice of coffees though. They enjoy looking for and testing the latest coffee beans. They like the grinding, tamping, and testing the settings on their often very expensive espresso maker.
Then again a lot of us don’t want to do that. Most love the way the C100 makes a single serving of beautiful coffee a foolproof process. You fill it with water, insert the Nespresso coffee capsule, push the on button and wait about half a minute. Then drink a superb cup of coffee prepared exactly as good each and every time.
Part of this quality is the quality of the coffee used for sure. Nespresso buyers do source outstanding beans, it is, after all, their business on the line if they don’t. But it’s not only that, the 19-bar of pressure this brilliant compact coffee maker produces are a key to the quality. It’s unusual for such a compact coffee maker to be able to create such high pressure which squeezes every drop of flavor from the coffee. In addition the ThermoBlock heater keeps the pressurized water even all the time.
Plus it is impossible for air to contaminate your coffee grounds with this coffee maker system. This is due to the sealed capsules which keep fresh for a very long time. You just have to lift the chrome handle and pop one into the slot when you want to brew.
The large 40-ounce clear removable water reservoir on the back is good too. It is easy to fill by turning the maker around or taking it out and holding it under a tap. Being able to see the water level at a glance from the side is good too.
The easy to access but not obtrusive on/off switch on the lower right is nice and needs just a gentle push to operate. The buttons on the front are rubber and very easy to use, just select short (single shot) or Lungo (double) and go for it.
One very popular feature is that clean up is very easy. The drip tray is easy to pull out and rinse and a dozen used capsules can be held in the internal storage area before needing removal. Once a capsule is used it automatically drops into the storage space when you lift the chrome handle.
So, here’s the summary The Nespresso C100 is not an espresso machine for anyone looking for loads of controls and features or the ability to select any coffee bean in the world. But if you want total simplicity and easy use along with easy clean up, then this coffee maker is a brilliant choice.
Oh, and of course the Nespresso C100 is also a very cool looking espresso machine that makes delicious coffee brews.
